This collection of papers includes accounts, receipts, notes, promissory notes, land transfers, bills, letters, fines, a license for a still, military discharge papers, court orders to pay witnesses, estate appraisal orders, a will, oath of allegiance, and court summons for various members of the Life (Martin, Martin, Jr., Christian, Samuel, and his son Abraham) and Waybright-Wibright-Winebright (Martin, Mathias, and Michael) families along with thoses belonging to John and Hannah Arbogast, Peter Snider, John Fritz of Strasburg and Winchester, and Cyrus Lantz. A few items are in German. In addition to the family papers, three items deal with schooling in Pendleton County. In 1847 Highland County was formed from Pendleton (now in West Virginia) and Bath counties. The Life family property, although always in Virginia, will be represented in land records in the Pendleton County, West Virginia court house.
